With the launch of G-CASH, is Globe performing like a bank? No, G-Cash does not perform the same as banks. Banks are financial institutions that accept cash for safekeeping and channel the money into lending activities. With G-Cash, the money is accepted at cash-in outlets, remitted to designated beneficiaries for cash-out or spent at merchant outlets. We do not re-invest the money. 15. Is G-CASH good as cash? G-cash operates in the same manner as load transfer. A pre-payment is done at a cash-in outlet and the "load" is just being transferred to another person's "wallet." Parties will still settle in cash and that settlement will be handled by settlement banks. G-Cash works like this: a. The cash-in outlets (remittance companies and banks) accept the cash b. Globe Telecom provides the transport c. Cash-out outlets disburse the money d. Settlements are performed by settlement banks; merchants accept payment for goods or services and ultimately must also settle 16. Will you comply with AMLA (Anti-Money Laundering Act of )? As a listed company we are covered by AMLA. We ensure compliance with the Know-Your-Customer rules first by knowing who they are, where they are and the nature of business they are into. This is to ensure that they are not involved in any illegal activity. To adhere to this act, we require cash-in outlets to do a remitter identification and verification routine. 17. Will G-CASH not be diverting foreign currency inflow away from the banking system? All settlements will be done by banks, so ultimately the money will flow back into the banking system. 18. Are you operating like a credit card? Are you not in effect operating a debit card? We are not operating like a credit card because we do not lend at any one point in time. There must always be a prepayment at a cash-in outlet and no one can cash-out or make a payment without there first having been a cash-in. This is also not a debit card, because G-Cash is not a card-based product. 19. How is this product different from Smart's Padala? G-Cash is a superior product as it provides subscribers a simpler, but more comprehensive, integrated payments service that is able to offer various types of payment -- of which remittance is a part. It therefore provides flexibility to Globe in introducing future payment services (i.e. POS-device-to-phone, cash card-to-phone and scratch card-to-phone transactions) without the need for additional requirements (i.e. another 16-digit PIN, another plastic card) to our subscribers. | Smart Money / Smart Padala | G-Cash | Every transaction requires several numbers to be entered, including a 16-digit Smart Money card number and a 6-digit mobile PIN. | Registration is one-time and SMS-based. Only a self-assigned mobile PIN and recipients' mobile number are required for transactions. | Smart Money card is needed for payments and remittances. | G-Cash is cardless. No need to change SIMs to use the service. | Subscriber may enter the wrong PIN more than 5 times. | There is a PIN-locking process for G-Cash, to keep the account secure. | A PIN is not required to swipe the card in the POS device at establishments. Stored value may thus be lost if you lose your card and don't report it right away. | G-Cash is stored in the virtual wallet, which is PIN-locked. Subscribers can claim G-Cash at Business Centers if they lose their phone. | Point of sale (POS) device is required for merchants. Also, encashment process is complicated. | Only phone-to-phone transactions are needed. Deployment is faster, cheaper. | 20. How will Globe earn from this?
